Update 177 – IAEA Director General Statement on Situation in ... - International Atomic Energy Agency

IAEA experts have been granted access to the rooftops of Unit 3 and Unit 4 reactor buildings and the turbine halls at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). They observed no mines or explosives during their inspection, and Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasized the importance of timely access to all areas of the plant. The IAEA teams have been conducting inspections and walkdowns at the ZNPP, monitoring the availability of water for cooling the six reactors. There is sufficient water available for many months, but the height of the water in the cooling pond is reducing at a rate of about 1 cm per day. The IAEA team also examined the integrity of the isolation gate at the cooling pond, performed radiation monitoring, and learned about plans to establish additional wells for water supply. The IAEA teams at other nuclear power plants in Ukraine did not report any issues related to safety and security.
