University of California Irvine-Led Study Establishes Link Between Low-Dose Radiation and Increased Cancer Risk - India Education Diary

Long-term exposure to low-dose radiation is linked to an increased risk of cancer, according to a study led by the University of California, Irvine. The study found that the cancer death rate grew by more than 50 percent per gray (unit of absorbed dose of ionizing radiation), which is larger than current estimates for radiation protection. The research was conducted as part of the International Nuclear Workers Study and followed over 300,000 industry workers to investigate the causes of death. The study cohort included workers from nuclear sites in France, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. who were monitored using radiation badges. The findings highlight the need to understand the risks associated with low-dose radiation exposure and inform decisions about its use in medical and commercial settings.
