He shared insights from a North Carolina radiology practice, which expanded from two to 15 APPs over seven years, indicating a growing trend despite there being fewer than 1,000 APPs currently practicing in radiology. For radiologists considering hiring an APP, Davis suggested engaging with practices that have succeeded, outlining the APP's role, and understanding credentialing processes to ensure a smooth onboarding experience. Davis emphasized the need for radiology organizations and relevant associations to recognize and develop specific roles for APPs, especially given the shortage of radiologists. He believes that a team-centric approach involving APPs can significantly enhance patient care and departmental efficiency.
