A recent study published in the American Journal of Roentgenology evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of photon-counting detector CT (PCD CT) for coronary angiography. The research demonstrates that both standard resolution (SR) and ultra-high resolution (UHR) modes provide high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for detecting coronary artery stenosis. Analysis of data from 122 inpatients revealed segment-level sensitivity and accuracy rates above 89.6% for coronary artery stenosis diagnosis. Key findings highlight that while SR images provided significant performance with average sensitivities ranging from 92.9% to 93.2%, UHR images outperformed with an impressive 100% sensitivity for UHRthin reconstructions. However, UHR imaging was associated with a higher radiation dose compared to SR exams. The study suggests that radiology practices may benefit from prioritizing UHR mode for patients with significant coronary calcification or severe coronary artery disease.
