Russian occupiers of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Ukraine are planning to switch power unit No. 4 to "hot shutdown" mode and refuse to put power unit No. 5 into "cold shutdown," according to Ukrainian company Energoatom. There is concern that the lack of water supply due to the dehydrated Kakhovka reservoir caused by the undermining of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russians may not be enough to cool the reactors if additional power units are put into operation. Energoatom has warned that there is a real threat of an emergency at the plant if two power units are in "hot shutdown" mode. Ukrainian operational personnel are unable to influence the situation due to threats and intimidation from the armed Russian military. Some nuclear workers at the Zaporizhia NPP have already left the plant in protest against the Russian occupiers' plans.
