The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has significantly expanded its list of cleared artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, with radiology leading the way. As of March 30, 2026, the total number of FDA-cleared AI algorithms has reached 1,524, with 1,163 specifically for radiology, making up 76.31% of the total. This marks an increase of 68 new radiology algorithms cleared in just the first quarter of 2026. The FDA is currently approving around 30 AI algorithms each month, a rise from an average of 21 per month in 2024. The annual Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) meeting has effectively become a major hub for AI discussions in medicine, with a significant portion of its expo floor dedicated to AI vendors. The updated list of cleared AI products includes various novel technologies and enhancements across different medical imaging systems.
