A recent survey published in Clinical Imaging reveals that while the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in breast imaging is on the rise, many radiologists do not report significant clinical benefits from the technology. The study, involving members of the Society of Breast Imaging, highlights that AI tools have improved certain aspects of breast cancer screening but have not resulted in better patient outcomes or financial gains. Despite nearly half of the surveyed radiologists using AI, few considered it a decisive factor in their work. The main barrier to AI adoption remains cost, especially among those not currently using it. Moreover, while many non-users believe AI could reduce burnout, only a small percentage of current users reported any noticeable impact on their workload or burnout levels. The findings suggest a need for further refinement and validation of AI tools to enhance their effectiveness in clinical practice.
