A Florida radiologist, Dr. John S. Scales, has been ordered to pay over $14,000 and undergo safety training due to a misreading of a brain CT scan nearly seven years ago. The Florida Board of Medicine issued a $5,000 fine, along with $9,015 for investigative costs, following a case where Scales failed to identify significant abnormalities in a patient's scan. Although he is not admitting liability, he agreed to the penalties, including a formal Letter of Concern on his medical license and additional training in brain CT imaging interpretation and risk management. Scales has 30 days to complete the payments. He previously faced disciplinary action for a wrong-site surgery in 2016.
