A recent study from Denmark has found that men with biochemically recurrent prostate cancer have improved survival rates when undergoing PSMA PET/CT scans prior to salvage radiotherapy, compared to those who do not receive this imaging. Analyzing data from 844 patients over eight years, the research revealed that those who had PSMA PET/CT before treatment experienced significantly better overall survival rates. Specifically, one-year, two-year, and five-year survival rates for PSMA PET/CT patients were reported at 100%, 99.5%, and 98.1%, respectively, versus lower rates for patients without the imaging. The study highlights PSMA PET/CT's role in guiding treatment decisions and suggests its integration could become a new standard in cancer care. The findings were published in the August issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
