A recent study from Denmark published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine reveals that using prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/CT scans before salvage radiotherapy significantly improves overall and biochemical recurrence-free survival in men with biochemically recurrent prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy. The study analyzed 844 patients and found that those who underwent the PSMA PET/CT scan had a higher survival rate at all time points compared to those who did not. Lead researcher Anna W. Mogensen emphasized the potential of PSMA PET/CT to identify patients who would benefit most from targeted salvage radiotherapy, suggesting its wider adoption to enhance personalized cancer treatment protocols.
