PET method offers new insight into inflammation of the brain - Health Imaging

Researchers have developed a new PET imaging method to analyze brain inflammation by targeting the COX-2 enzyme, which plays a crucial role in neuroinflammation. The study, published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, involved the use of radiotracer 11C-MC1 to successfully measure COX-2 levels in both rat models and 27 human subjects. The method proved safe and effective, potentially transforming the diagnosis and management of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This advancement could support personalized medicine and enhance therapeutic development in the field. Additionally, GE HealthCare has introduced updates to the Revolution Vibe CT scanner to improve diagnostic performance and efficiency in coronary artery disease evaluations.
