New crystal camera lets doctors see inside the body like never before - ScienceDaily

Scientists from Northwestern University and Soochow University have developed the first perovskite-based detector for SPECT imaging, capable of capturing individual gamma rays with unprecedented precision. This advancement could enhance nuclear medicine imaging by making procedures faster, clearer, cheaper, and safer for patients, potentially reducing scan times and radiation doses. The new detectors outperform existing technologies made of cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) and sodium iodide (NaI) by providing higher clarity and stability. The researchers see this technology as a way to improve access to high-quality imaging solutions in hospitals worldwide. The study was published in the journal Nature Communications on August 30.
