The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) have released a new procedure standard for estrogen receptor imaging of breast cancer patients using Fluoroestradiol F-18 Positron Emission Tomography (FES PET). With an estimated 2 million women worldwide diagnosed with breast cancer each year, this new standard aims to assist physicians in recommending, performing, interpreting, and reporting the results of F-FES PET studies. It includes detailed information on indications, procedure specifications, patient selection, tracer administration, imaging interpretation, and reporting. The standardization of F-FES PET is expected to improve the use of this imaging technique in clinical practice, leading to more accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment strategies for breast cancer patients.
