New AI tool for PET imaging allows for high-quality, fully automated ... - EurekAlert

A new artificial intelligence (AI) tool has been developed to detect and evaluate brain tumors in an automated and objective manner, according to research published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine. The tool utilizes deep learning-based segmentation algorithms and is designed to work with amino acid PET scans. It can assess brain tumor patients' response to treatment with the same level of quality as an experienced physician but in a much shorter period of time. The researchers hope that this tool will improve and automate clinical decision-making based on the volumetric evaluation of amino acid PET scans, providing patients with important diagnostic information that was previously difficult to obtain. The algorithm is freely available and can be executed on a conventional computer in less than two minutes without preprocessing.
