The sixth edition of the NEA International Radiological Protection School (IRPS) recently took place at Stockholm University. The course aimed to enhance participants' understanding of the international radiological protection system. The event brought together 60 participants both in-person and online. The IRPS was established in 2018 by the NEA, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, and the Centre for Radiation Protection Research of Stockholm University to provide a deeper understanding of the radiological protection system. The course included lectures from international experts, discussions on current challenges and the future of radiological protection, and interactive case studies. The program was updated based on feedback from participants and included new topics such as naturally occurring radioactive materials, radiological protection during armed conflicts, and low-dose research. The course also included a practical session on identifying chromosomal aberrations. The NEA, SSM, and Stockholm University have agreed to organize future editions of the IRPS, and there are plans to launch an alumni network in the future.
