A collaboration between McMaster University researchers and Conexus Nuclear Inc. aims to enhance radiation safety in Canada's CANDU nuclear power reactors. Led by professors Soo Hyun Byun and Carmel Mothersill, the project, backed by a $1.6 million investment from NSERC, focuses on developing advanced radiation detection instruments and studying the health and environmental effects of low-level radiation. The initiative seeks to create more accurate and efficient real-time radiation measurement tools and investigate the complexities of low-dose radiation exposure. Conexus has pledged an additional $1 million to support these advancements. The project will also involve McMaster students, fostering skills in radiation detection and analysis.
