Macau will restrict the import of fresh food from ten regions in Japan that are considered high-risk due to Japan's decision to discharge radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean. The ban includes a variety of food items such as animal products, seafood, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and more. The ten high-risk regions include Fukushima, Chiba, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Miyagi, Niigata, Nagano, Saitama, and Tokyo. Japan's decision to release the contaminated water has drawn widespread objection, and Macau is aligning its response with measures taken by mainland China. The Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macau criticized Japan for not consulting neighboring countries and deemed the decision irresponsible. Macau had already suspended food imports from Fukushima prefecture after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Additionally, food imports from the other nine high-risk prefectures must have radiation safety certificates.
