The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has conducted a review mission in the Netherlands to assess its programme for managing spent fuel and radioactive waste. The review concluded that the Netherlands has an effective system in place, with a strong commitment to safety, innovation, and openness. The ARTEMIS review team considered the country’s nuclear regulatory framework and waste management infrastructure. The Netherlands has one central storage facility for radioactive waste, as well as nuclear power reactors, research reactors, and an enrichment plant. Recommendations for improvement were provided, and the final report will be given to the Dutch government in two months.
