IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi delivered a statement in which he extended condolences to the Kingdom of Morocco following an earthquake and welcomed Cabo Verde as the 177th Member State of the IAEA. He discussed the IAEA's work in Japan to provide continuous live data on treated water release from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, noting that tritium levels in seawater near the plant are below Japan's operational limit. Grossi also highlighted the IAEA's presence at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine and discussed the Agency's technical cooperation program, including initiatives such as Atoms4Food, Rays of Hope, NUTEC Plastic, and the Zoonotic Disease Integrated Action project. He emphasized the importance of contributions to the TC Fund to ensure sufficient resources for the program. Grossi also provided updates on the Agency's work in fusion energy and nuclear fission, as well as the verification and monitoring of Iran's nuclear program and the implementation of safeguards in Syria. He called on Member States to settle outstanding contributions to address the Agency's liquidity challenge and reaffirmed his commitment to use resources efficiently.
