Expanded MURR facility aims to attract global nuclear medicine experts to Columbia - KRCG

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) has officially opened "MURR West," a $20 million three-story expansion that aims to enhance research capabilities, increase collaboration with industry partners, and facilitate the production of medical isotopes. This expansion, the largest in the facility's nearly 60-year history, comes in response to rising demand for isotopes like Lutetium 177, now more widely usable due to recent FDA regulation changes. Executive Director Matt Sandford emphasized the importance of additional space for research and development, stating that the facility is crucial in advancing cancer treatment technologies and saving lives. The expansion is expected to attract leading experts in nuclear medicine to Columbia for partnerships and innovative projects.
