Emerging MRI Research Suggests Link Between Muscle Mass, Belly Fat and Brian Aging - diagnosticimaging.com

Researchers at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference have presented findings suggesting that a combination of higher muscle mass and lower visceral fat may positively impact brain aging. The study involved 1,164 healthy participants, assessing muscle and fat volumes through MRI scans. Results indicated that greater total normalized muscle volume was linked to younger brain appearance, while higher visceral fat was associated with older brain age. The study reinforces obesity as a significant risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and suggests further research into weight loss medications that could help reduce visceral fat and improve brain health.
