El Salvador Opens First Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory with IAEA Support - International Atomic Energy Agency

El Salvador has inaugurated its first Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory, aimed at enhancing the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation across the country. The facility will provide calibration services for radiation measuring instruments, improving measurement accuracy in medicine, industry, and research. Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the laboratory represents eight years of collaboration to advance El Salvador's radiation safety capacity. Experts from the IAEA provided necessary equipment and guidance, while local staff received training in Mexico. The laboratory's opening was celebrated with a congress focused on ionizing radiation metrology and its implications for various fields. Additionally, El Salvador may join the IAEA/WHO Network of Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratories, facilitating international collaboration in radiation dosimetry.
