AI integration with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown to significantly enhance biopsy decision-making in prostate cancer diagnosis, according to research presented at the 41st Annual Congress of the European Association of Urology. The study, conducted on patients from 2021 to 2024, involved five radiology readers who assessed biparametric MRI (bpMRI) scans with and without AI assistance. Results indicated that AI support improved both biopsy selectivity and efficiency, particularly among less experienced readers, who achieved accuracy comparable to expert radiologists. The AI-assisted approach aims to reduce variability in prostate cancer diagnosis and help clinicians better identify patients needing biopsy while minimizing unnecessary procedures. Future prospective studies are required to ascertain improved outcomes in routine clinical practice.
