Dr. Brian D. Briscoe, a pioneering radiologist who played a key role in the conversion of analog to digital radiology, has passed away at the age of 91. Dr. Briscoe was known for being the first radiologist in the world to use a computer workstation for image interpretations instead of film. He joined the staff of Sinai Hospital in 1966 and later became a radiologist at Ascension St. Agnes Hospital. He began his career at the Baltimore VA Medical Center in 1988, where he was instrumental in the conversion to digital radiology. He was also an instructor in radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Briscoe's achievements in radiology were not widely known until his colleague, Dr. Eliot L. Siegel, mentioned them in his eulogy. Dr. Briscoe was described as a delightful, witty, and humble person with an Old World charm. He was also a fan of thoroughbred horse racing, classical music, and photography.
