Defense Health Agency-Public Health launches inaugural course to standardize medical radiation safety training - army.mil

The Defense Health Agency-Public Health has initiated its first Medical Radiation Safety Officer course, designed to establish a consistent safety standard for patients and staff in military hospitals and clinics globally. This 40-hour training program addresses the lack of standardized instruction for Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), who manage the safe use of radioactive materials and X-ray equipment. The course is tailored specifically for the needs of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), incorporating policies and military protocols not covered in civilian training. Participants, including military and civilian personnel, reported that the course enhanced their expertise and provided vital insights applicable to their roles. The training includes hands-on experience with radiation detection instruments and aims to foster a professional network among RSOs. The organizers plan to refine and expand the program in the future.
