Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler made history on January 16 by becoming the first hospital in the U.S. to use a portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system on neonates. This milestone was achieved when three-month-old Iziekel Flores became the first pediatric patient in the country to receive a brain scan using the new Swoop V.2 technology in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The portable MRI allows for advanced imaging at the bedside, providing comfort to both patients and families. Katherine Sisemore, director of radiology, stated that this innovation enhances care for critically ill infants. Christus Health has also acquired a second Swoop system for its upcoming emergency hospital in Palestine, set to open on January 29.
