Carolyn J. Anderson, PhD has been named the recipient of the 2024 Georg Charles de Hevesy Nuclear Pioneer Award by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). Anderson's research in nuclear medicine, specifically in the development of radiometal-based agents for diagnostic imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy of cancer, has paved the way for advancements in the field of "theranostics." Her work has contributed to the development and approval of imaging and therapeutic agents for neuroendocrine tumors and vaso-occlusive crisis in sickle cell disease. Anderson is currently the Simón-Ellebracht Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and director of the Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has also received various honors and awards throughout her career and has contributed significantly to radiochemistry and molecular imaging research.
