A team of scientists from the University Medical Center Freiburg and other institutions have made a breakthrough in live observation of metabolic processes in the body using metabolic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They have developed a method to modify molecules in the body, enhancing their visibility in MRI scans. This method is safe, affordable, and rapid, and has potential applications in personalized cancer diagnostics. The study results include the successful production of highly polarized pyruvate using the SABRE method, as well as the demonstration of converting pyruvate into lactate and alanine in an animal model.
