In June 2023, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expressed concern about the disconnection of radiation monitoring stations near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) from Ukrainian authorities. The IAEA visited the plant to inspect the cooling system and reported that work had been done to strengthen hydraulic seals and maintain water supplies. However, the water level in the cooling pond has been decreasing at an alarming rate, raising concerns about the long-term water supply for the plant. The situation at the plant remains tense, with reports of mining and a potential terrorist attack. The UK and the USA passed the "Atlantic Declaration" in support of nuclear energy cooperation, while Sweden seeks to lift the ban on uranium production. In terms of international projects, Westinghouse Electric Company signed a contract with Energoatom to supply Long-Term Containment Cooling Systems for the Rivne NPP in Ukraine, and Framatome and Slovenské elektrárne signed a memorandum of understanding to diversify fuel for VVER reactors. The APIS project, led by Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB, aims to develop alternative fuel for VVER reactors in Europe. The EU passed its 11th package of sanctions against Russia, but significant restrictions against Rosatom were not included. Rosatom continues its international projects, including the Paks-2 NPP in Hungary and a small modular reactor project in Kyrgyzstan.
