An appeal to CMS for common sense relief from unnecessary ... - Lexology

The American College of Radiology (ACR), the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA), RadNet and Rayus Radiology have written a joint letter to the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS), requesting the waiver of a burdensome and unnecessary reporting requirement for outpatient radiology practices and imaging centers. The requirement, added by CMS in response to Section 90004 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, mandates the application of specific modifiers when submitting claims for the cost of imaging contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals under Medicare Part B. Despite an exclusion for manufacturers' reporting obligations to CMS for radiopharmaceuticals and imaging agents, the JW and JZ modifiers remain a requirement for claims related to contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals used in imaging studies. The stakeholders hope that their appeal to CMS will result in the removal of this administrative requirement, which affects over 3 million imaging studies and 1.5 million diagnostic nuclear medicine exams annually for Medicare Part B beneficiaries.
