Measures to ensure fire safety in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone have not been implemented due to a lack of funding, according to Mykhailo Baitala, the head of the relevant department in Ukraine. A comprehensive plan adopted after a massive wildfire in 2020, which included a budget of 1.2 billion UAH over four years, has not been executed. A field commission from the Verkhovna Rada is set to investigate these issues after the anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster on April 26. Additionally, forest protection in the area is inadequate, with insufficient fire-fighting measures and poor forest road conditions noted by Taras Lymar, head of the State Agency of Forest Resources.
