82% of radiologists and other physicians now employed by corporate entities - Radiology Business

A new analysis by the Physicians Advocacy Institute and Avalere Health reveals that approximately 82% of U.S. radiologists and physicians are now employed by hospitals, insurers, or corporate entities, leaving only 18% in physician-owned practices as of January 1. Over the past two years, corporations have employed an additional 48,000 doctors, while hospitals acquired about 13,900 physician practices, now comprising approximately 64% of all U.S. practices. The report underscores concerns about the impact of corporate ownership on medical decision-making, with the CEO of the Physicians Advocacy Institute calling for policies to protect physician autonomy and patient care. The findings show a continued corporate consolidation in healthcare, with significant implications for the nature of medical practice in the U.S.
